Job description
Overview

Working alongside qualified technicians who will be dealing with all aspects of the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles. Inspecting and repairing a range of heavy vehicles (HVs) and trailers for dealerships, independent garages and franchise and large fleet operators. Level 3 Apprenticeship. The course is fully supported with all of the training you require to become fully qualified. With the rapid increase in the complexity of today's trucks - and the technology needed to keep them up and running - first class training for those involved in the vital servicing and maintenance of these vehicles has become more important than ever. The HTC Apprentice Programme gives you the chance to join the select group of specialist technicians working on some of the most modern, sophisticated trucks on the road.

Responsibilities
  • Observing and assisting senior technicians
  • Following health and safety procedures
  • Servicing
  • MOTs
  • All aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, carry out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV
  • The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes
  • Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately
  • The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and manufacturers\' standards
  • Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HVs
  • Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester's manual
  • Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision
  • Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes
  • Maintain records to company and operators\' licence obligations and regulation
  • To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support HV inspection and diagnosing techniques
Training and Apprenticeship

Training schedule: Not only will Apprentices be working and be trained at a HTC garage, but they will also attend our DAF Nottingham Training Centre four times a year for two-week periods to work towards their Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. An advisor will visit at least every six weeks as part of a close support network to ensure that Apprentices are both enjoying and succeeding in their course. An Apprentice\'s training includes:

  • Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Standard
  • Functional skills if needed in maths & English
  • GCSE in English & Maths (grade 4/C)
