An ambitious and supportive secondary school in Newham is seeking a confident and adaptable Cover Teacher for Science for a full-time, short-term role starting this September. This position is ideal for someone passionate about engaging students in scientific thinking while maintaining continuity in the classroom during teacher absences.
You'll play a key role in helping students stay on track in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics through delivering pre-set lessons and maintaining a purposeful learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver pre-planned Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
Engage students in scientific topics and encourage critical thinking and enquiry
Manage classroom behaviour and ensure a focused learning atmosphere
Record attendance and report any incidents or concerns to relevant staff
Provide basic support and clarification on scientific content during lessons
Be flexible to cover other subjects if required, depending on school needs
You’ll be a great fit if you:
Have experience working in a secondary school or education-based role
Hold a degree or strong knowledge in one or more Science disciplines
Are confident managing classrooms and adapting to different student groups
Communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and lead lessons with confidence
Have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or are willing to apply for one)
Are passionate about education and committed to student welfare and progress
