The Cover Supervisor Role

We are looking for confident and motivated Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across Sunderland. You will manage the classroom during teacher absences, deliver pre-set work and ensure pupils remain engaged and focused throughout the lesson. This role would be suitable for graduates, individuals with a care background, or someone who wants to start their career in education.

Key Responsibilities of a Cover Supervisor
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons to secondary pupils across a range of subjects.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies and expectations.
  • Support pupils with their learning and maintain a productive environment.
  • Provide accurate feedback to teaching staff at the end of each lesson.
What We're Looking For in a Cover Supervisor
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to lead a classroom.
  • Experience working with young people (youth work, tutoring, sports coaching, mentoring, etc.).
  • Ability to remain calm, professional and consistent.
  • Willingness to complete mandatory safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS.
Desirable Skills of a Cover Supervisor
  • Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor or Teaching Assistant.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
  • A background in education, youth services or relevant subjects.
  • Access to transport for travel to multiple school sites.
