Job Vacancy - Controls Engineer (Contract, Outside IR35)

Location: Belfast, UK
Duration: 3-6 Months
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Rate Options

• £45-50 per hour (Outside IR35) – Flights & accommodation covered by contractor
• £40-45 per hour (Outside IR35) – Client covers travel expenses

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with a strong maintenance background to provide on‑site support within a busy FMCG packaging production environment in Belfast. Our client needs someone who is able to travel to Belfast on the W/C 15 December to do a handover for a few days before the Christmas shut down and then start back up at the beginning of January. This is a hands‑on role requiring both rapid response to breakdowns and the ability to drive long‑term improvements such as root cause analysis, system backups, and training delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide on‑site controls support for production, minimising downtime.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and modify Siemens PLC and HMI systems.
• Carry out electrical fault finding and structured troubleshooting.
• Manage and implement automation software backup schedules.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Deliver training and knowledge‑sharing sessions for maintenance and production teams.
• Work flexibly across engineering tasks, supporting production reliability and efficiency.

Essential Experience

• Siemens S7 (STEP 7 and TIA Portal).
• WinCC HMI configuration and troubleshooting.
• Strong fault‑finding and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Proven maintenance controls engineering background.
