A leading automotive company in Coleshill, UK is offering a Level 6 Control Engineer apprenticeship set to start in August 2026. The successful candidate will receive extensive hands-on training, focusing on automotive production technology. Responsibilities include maintaining production equipment, repairing machinery, and contributing to process improvements. BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines as well as V8 and V12 engines, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug‑in hybrid vehicles.
We are looking for a committed and eager-to-learn individual to join our Maintenance team, responsible for ensuring all production equipment, both mechanical and electrical, is operating efficiently and safely. This involves engaging in tasks such as repairing and rebuilding machinery, designing process improvements, and assessing the need for future repairs to prevent issues from occurring, tasks that you will be involved in as your apprenticeship progresses. Our Maintenance team is keen to teach our apprentices a range of skills needed to be successful, supporting you to ensure your apprenticeship experience is both engaging and valuable to your future.

The training that you receive during your apprenticeship involves studying modern, state-of-the-art automotive production technology as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques.
The first year of the program is exclusively in a learning environment where, in addition to starting the academic requirements of your program, you will undertake practical training to qualify you with Employers Units of Competence. Your training will cover a wide range of engineering disciplines such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits, control systems, fluid power, programmable logic controllers, welding and more.
In the second and third year you will continue with the academic requirements of the programme alongside on-the-job training. Your on-the-job training will comprise of placements in a number of different areas of the business, with particular focus on developing, creating and quality checking our products and systems. Whilst training onsite, you will rotate around the business with placements in all areas of automotive manufacturing and may also involve placements at other BMW UK sites.
In your fourth year your on-the-job training will continue and will become more targeted to your final job role. Where the job requires it you will start working a shift pattern to help better integrate you with your team.
Whilst developing specialist, on-the-job knowledge, the apprentice will also undertake fully funded study toward the attainment of a BEng (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering.

These include team working, the ability to work without close supervision, quality focus, good communication skills, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to take on responsibility and show accountability for your work.

The successful applicants from the above will be invited to the final stage of this process, a face-to-face Assessment Centre at our BMW Hams Hall plant. Provisionally, the Assessment Centre is due to take place week commencing 30th March 2026 (this is subject to change).
