Contract Technical Designer - SolidWorks IR35 Status: Out

Hourly - Circa £40 DOE
Contract Term - 6 months
Location - Remote

Join a leading design and manufacturing business specialising in high-quality, bespoke interior solutions for commercial sectors including retail, hospitality, and workplace environments. This company combines traditional craftsmanship with advanced production techniques and operates from a modern facility that fosters collaboration and innovation.

We are seeking a Contract Technical Designer who is proficient in creating detailed 3D models using SolidWorks, as well as 2D technical drawing packs for manufacture. To be successful, you must demonstrate a strong background in joinery within the commercial sector and be able to provide your own SolidWorks license and CAD-capable hardware. This is a fully remote role, with an expectation to meet the team initially, and then approximately once every 4 to 6 weeks.

Responsibilities
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models using SolidWorks and SWOOD, along with precise setting-out drawings for bespoke joinery, metalwork, and fit-out elements
  • Produce clear and timely drawing packs for client approvals, internal manufacturing, and subcontractor use
  • Translate architectural drawings and design briefs into buildable solutions aligned with RIBA Stage 4 requirements
  • Annotate and issue drawings for procurement BOQ (Bill of Quantities) and maintain accurate, up-to-date drawing registers
  • Collaborate with project managers, production teams, and subcontractors to ensure design intent is maintained from concept through to installation
  • Lead design on assigned projects and contribute collaboratively across multiple active project streams
  • Support the integration of complex elements such as lighting, AV, graphics, textiles, and other specialist finishes
  • Ensure all design outputs are optimised for CNC/CAM manufacturing and workshop capabilities
  • Drive continuous improvement by engaging with production, refining design processes, and supporting the advancement of SWOOD/CAM capabilities
Experience & Qualifications
  • Proficient in creating 3D CAD models using SolidWorks
  • Experience using SolidWorks SWOOD is highly advantageous
  • Proven experience as a Technical or Product Designer within bespoke manufacturing, joinery, or interior fit-out sectors, ideally including museum, exhibition, or stage/set environments
  • Skilled in producing detailed, production-ready technical drawings (DFM) and working accurately from architectural plans
  • Must provide own SolidWorks license
  • Must provide own CAD hardware
