Qualifications

Contract Supervisor

Salary: £31,235 - £42,948 per annum

Hours: 40 - 45 hours per week

Location: Welwyn Garden City, AL7 1BD

As a Contract Supervisor at FCC Environment, you will play a key role in planning, controlling, and supervising staff and resources to maintain the collection of refuse, recycling, and street cleansing throughout the district. You will be responsible for leading a team of 40+ employees, ensuring contractual requirements are met and maintaining high standards of health and safety, performance, and customer service.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?
  • Planning and organising daily tasks, arranging crew deployment, and allocating vehicles, plant, and materials
  • Preparing and recording resource schedules to ensure contract schedules are met
  • Setting output targets for crews and monitoring performance
  • Ensuring accurate completion of all relevant documentation
  • Carrying out health and safety monitoring and maintaining records
  • Managing employee attendance, grievances, and discipline
  • Maintaining high standards of contractor/client liaison
  • Supporting the achievement of business objectives and compliance with company procedures
What are we looking for?
  • Experience in supervising teams, ideally within waste management, logistics, or a similar operational environment
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to allocate resources and monitor performance
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including IT proficiency
  • A valid UK driving licence (LGV Class 2 and O Licence desirable)
  • The ability to work flexible hours and in adverse weather conditions
  • Experience in health and safety monitoring and compliance
  • Proven ability to delegate, train, lead, and develop a workforce
  • A calm, assertive, and confident approach, with strong negotiation and customer service skills
  • Experience in stock control, workload planning, and scheduling
  • Local knowledge of the area (desirable)
  • Experience in disciplinary and absence management
  • Experience and knowledge of dealing with fleet
