Job summary

A leading defense contractor is looking for a Cyber Security Engineer in Newport for a 6-month contract with a possibility of extension. The role is onsite and offers up to £90 per hour. You will be a senior point of escalation in the Security Operations Centre, responsible for ensuring the stability of security tools and supporting complex investigations. Active DV clearance and SOC tool experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in cyber security engineering, especially in SOC environments.
  • Ability to mentor and support junior SOC engineers and analysts.
  • Strong operational understanding of security toolsets.

Responsibilities

  • Support and mentor SOC Engineers and Analysts.

  • Manage toolset health, capacity, and availability.
  • Support change and release management.
  • Oversee the transition of new security projects into SOC operations.

Our client, a global leader in aerospace, defence, and aviation manufacturing, is seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer to join our team, acting as a senior technical escalation point within our Security Operations Centre (SOC). You'll ensure our security tools run smoothly, support complex investigations, and oversee the onboarding of new cyber projects into operations.

  • Strong experience with SOC tools (IDPS, Firewalls, SIEM/Splunk, Email & Web protection).
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco ASR, Palo Alto, and Fortinet firewalls.
  • Windows & RedHat server experience, including CIS hardening.
