Job description

Due to our expanding workload, an exciting opportunity for an MSc-qualified Hydrogeologist to join our growing and highly successful multidisciplinary team has emerged. We seek energetic and innovative staff to work as part of integrated project teams of geo-environmental and geotechnical specialists who can deliver our solution‑oriented services to our existing and new clients.

Although the remit is national, this role will ideally be based in our Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester or Birmingham offices, with a preference for Stoke. Please advise us of your availability in your cover letter.

This position offers the potential for experience in a wide range of interesting and challenging hydrogeological projects and the potential for strong career growth for an enthusiastic and self‑motivated candidate. A commitment to obtain chartership is essential, and progress toward chartership will be fully supported.

We are looking for expertise in delivering a wide range of hydrogeological services. These include the design and management of site investigations, including on‑site supervision, logging, sampling, and pumping test analysis. You'll also be responsible for managing groundwater, gas, and surface water monitoring and developing detailed conceptual site models.

Your experience should also cover controlled waters risk assessment (both GQRA and DQRA), borehole prognosis, resource assessments, and landfill hydrogeological risk assessments. One of the other key aspects of the role will have you engaging with regulatory bodies for Environmental Permitting and producing interpretive reports. Proficiency in hydrogeological modelling software such as RTM v3.2, ConSim, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, AquiferWIN32, or similar packages is also beneficial, along with experience in geothermal and mine water heat projects.

About You

Candidates must demonstrate skills in site activities, factual and interpretative reporting, data management, analysis, and presentation of results. The individual will be expected to demonstrate an ability to produce high‑quality oral and written communications. Good time management, presentation skills, and a flexible attitude are also essential to working within our busy and dynamic team.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a BSc in geology, environmental science, or a related discipline, complemented by an MSc in hydrogeology. You should have several years of experience in hydrogeology, with a preference for a consultancy background. Experience using GIS software (QGIS / ARC), coding (e.g. Python) and database management will also be a valuable asset.

The employer for this position is Stantec Hydrock Limited, part of the Stantec companies.
