A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. We would like to offer an opportunity for enthusiastic Radiologist who wish to develop their careers in our department’s traditionally friendly, harmonious and supportive environment. This is a substantive full-time appointment to support the Imaging services across UHDB. The post is based at the UHDB, mainly split between two major sites with acute care facilities (RDH and QHB). Following expansion of our services associated with our successful Community Diagnostic Centres, we are looking to appoint Consultant Radiologists across multiple sub-speciality interests, in General Body, Head & Neck and Neuro Imaging. The appointed candidate will work with a team of established specialist radiologists providing diagnostic imaging expertise in Radiology. The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust have 54 Consultant Radiologists (part and full time). In addition, we have 18 Speciality Registrars on rotation from Nottingham and Leicester. The appointed consultant is expected to cover general reporting in addition to their sub-speciality work and participate on the diagnostic on call rota at the Royal Derby Hospital. The on-call work will be supported by a large cross site team of 12 reporting radiographers reporting plain film and MSK MRI.
Responsibilities
- Cover general reporting in addition to sub-speciality work.
- Participate on the diagnostic on call rota at the Royal Derby Hospital, supported by a cross-site team of radiographers.
- Provide diagnostic imaging expertise across imaging modalities in Radiology.
- Engage in general clinical service provision including out-of-hours responsibilities and participation in on-call duties.
- Active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education, including training sessions for Foundation Years, Specialty Registrars, and medical students.
- Provide cover for colleagues during reasonable periods of leave, including patient care and supervision of doctors in training.
- Responsible for professional supervision, training, and management of junior medical staff, contributing to postgraduate and CPD activity locally and nationally as appropriate.
Qualifications and Working Arrangements
- Consultant Radiologist with sub-speciality interests in General Body, Head & Neck and Neuro Imaging (as applicable).
- The post attracts 10 PAs (8.5 DCC + 1.5 SPA); part-time arrangements and additional PAs for teaching are considered.
- New Consultants are encouraged to support the Radiology Academy teaching programme using a purpose-built Academy.
- Flexible working is promoted; many consultants have 4-day job plans with home reporting stations to support work-life balance.
Department Information
- Large cross-site imaging department offering all imaging modalities with modern equipment: 10 MRI, 11 CT scanners located at mains sites and community diagnostic centres; 5 fluoroscopy rooms including 2 dedicated interventional suites and a hybrid theatre.
- The Trust Imaging Department also provides imaging services at seven community hospitals throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire, with three designated as Community Diagnostic Centres featuring new CT (routine and Cardiac), MRI, U/S training academy, DeXA and X-Ray.

- In addition to specialist interests, all consultants will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust.
