Job description
Consultant Paramedic in Emergency Care

The closing date is 30 December 2025

We are seeking an exceptional Consultant Paramedic in Emergency Care to join our senior clinical leadership team. This is a new and pivotal role, aligned to the NHS England framework for multi-professional consultant practice, designed to provide senior clinical leadership for emergency care including to drive the reduction in unwarranted variation between our counties, further improve clinical quality, lead clinical professional standards and work with system partners to increase availability and capacity of community services.

As a Consultant Paramedic, you will provide knowledge skills and experience in expert clinical practice, strategic leadership, and system-wide influence to ensure our emergency care services deliver the highest standards of patient outcomes and safety. The post holder will work closely with a Consultant Paramedic in the South of the Trust and be required to travel across the South West.

Main duties of the job

The role spans the four pillars of consultant practice:

Clinical Practice
  • Deliver evidence-based care in complex emergency and urgent care situations.
  • Act as a clinical role model, supporting paramedics and wider teams in delivering safe, effective care.
Leadership
  • Shape and influence trust-wide strategy for emergency care.
  • Provide senior clinical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and system partners.
  • Champion innovation, transformation, and workforce development.
Education
  • Lead on professional development, mentoring, and provide support and guidance to the education team.
  • Collaborate with universities and training providers to strengthen and future proof paramedic education pathways.
  • Drive applied research and service evaluation to improve patient outcomes.
  • Translate evidence into practice, ensuring our services remain at the forefront of emergency care.

  • Significant experience in leading clinical practice in the ambulance settings
