The successful candidate will join a friendly department. We have an exciting opportunity to recruit 2.0WTE consultant Neurologists to work in Hereford.

Most areas of special interest can be accommodated. We are advertising for a full-time consultant, on discussion we may be able to consider flexible working or a part-time position.

Main duties of the job

We are interested in a Consultant Neurologist with general skills and experience who may also like to develop a sub speciality interest that benefits the outcomes of our patients.

The main duties and responsibilities of the Consultant post are:

  • To provide a high quality service in Neurology to the patients ofHerefordshire and the surrounding area, using evidence-based guidelines and clinical governance structures.
  • To advise clinical colleagues on matters within his/her sphere of expertise.
  • To offer advice / support / education to medical, nursing, managerial and other staff on appropriate matters.
  • To carry out medical teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required.
  • To contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity including Continuing Professional Development.
  • To contribute to the training of nurses, paramedical, scientific and technical staff.
  • To contribute to the management process within the Trust through participation in planning, project or liaison groups as appropriate. In particular, the post holder will be involved in Specialty & Service Unitmeetings.
  • To support the Clinical Directors and General Manager with appropriate advice with regard to the development of Neurology and Medical services at Wye Valley NHS Trust

Job responsibilities

We are seeking to recruit to the role of full-time Consultant in Neurology (10 PAs) to support the current delivery of both outpatient clinics and inpatient support. Development of specialist interests will be encouraged. We are advertising for a full-time consultant, on discussion we may be able to consider flexible working or a part-time position.We also welcome applicants who would also like the opportunity to work one-day per week at a Tertiary Centre. We would welcome the opportunity to speak to any interested candidates about their preferred job plan to ensure a full work-life balance.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or Eligibility to enter it within 6 months from the date of the interview and hold a license to practice
  • MRCP or equivalent postgraduate general medical experience
  • MB ChB or equivalent
Training
  • Training and experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT (or within 6 months of it being issued)
  • CESR
Experience & Knowledge
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in all aspects of general neurology
  • Comprehensive knowledge in Neurology and ability to offer expert clinical opinion in the management of acute and chronic neurological disorders
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • An interest in a sub-specialist field within neurology
Clinical Governance
  • Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance
  • Knowledge of principles of evidence based practice
  • Knowledge of principles of clinical audit and direct experience of audit
  • An interest which improves the Neurology pathway in all aspects
  • Evidence of implementing relevant evidence based medicine
  • Implementation of evidence based guidelines
  • Participation in relevant national audits
Research
  • Knowledge of the principles of research and ability to interpret and apply clinical research
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
