Job Summary
The primary purpose of this post is to support the delivery of comprehensive care for children with endocrine, diabetes, and metabolic bone disorders, including specialised NHSE‑funded services for Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Hypophosphatasia across both inpatient and outpatient settings. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a well‑established multidisciplinary team, contributing to Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Services and engaging across the department’s endocrinology sub‑specialties. The department is committed to innovation and continual improvement, ensuring services remain at the highest standards in Europe.
Responsibilities
- Deliver care through face‑to‑face and virtual clinics, ensuring services are accessible and patient‑centred.
- Participate in national specialist services, including Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Hypophosphatasia clinics, collaborating with two consultant colleagues.
- Contribute to the care of patients with rare endocrine conditions, rare tumours, and CHARGE syndrome clinics, and support general endocrine and transition clinics for age‑appropriate care.
- Work in the multidisciplinary diabetes team, attending MDT meetings and collaborating on the management of children with metabolic bone disease and Type 1/2 diabetes.
- Deliver outreach clinics for metabolic bone disease within the supra‑regional service and for peripheral endocrine outreach across the network.
- Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, mentoring and supervising postgraduate staff.
- Support and facilitate clinical research within the Endocrinology and Diabetes department, contributing to recruiting for ongoing trials and portfolio studies.
- Actively engage in the Trust’s Clinical Governance framework, audit personal practice, and meet Continuing Medical Education requirements.
- Provide on‑call support (1:6.5 WTE) for tertiary endocrinology and diabetes, including inpatient wards and regional DGH services.

Qualifications (Essential)
- Medical Degree from a recognised University
- CCT in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes or equivalent tertiary training in Paediatrics and Endocrinology and Diabetes as defined by BSPED standards (or equivalent experience)
- MRCPCH
- Child protection Level 3 training
- Basic Life Support
Qualifications (Desirable)
- Higher Degree (MD, DPhil, Masters, MPhil, PhD, etc.)
- Experience in Metabolic bone and OI service
- APLS
Eligibility (Essential)
- Full GMC registration
- Entry on the GMC specialist Register via CCT in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (or recognised equivalent); CCT date must be within 6 months of interview, or CESR/Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Register at application and demonstrate equivalent competence
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards and Good Medical Practice
