This is a job advertisement for a Substantive Consultant in Anaesthesia. The department will strive to accommodate any sub specialty interest including paediatrics, perioperative medicine, intensive care medicine, trauma, obstetrics, acute pain, regional anaesthesia, and teaching.
The Trust conducts surgical services over two main sites: Darent Valley Hospital (DVH) Dartford, and Queen Mary's Hospital (QMS) Sidcup. We have a combined 13 theatres over the two sites, with surgical specialtiesincluding orthopaedics, urology, general/vascular surgery, ENT and gynaecology. There is an interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and there are 2 dedicated state-of-the-art theatres for this purpose. Thereis one dedicated theatre for Robotic surgery as well.
The appointee will cover anaesthetic lists at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford and Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup. There is a busy maternity unit with over 5,500 deliveries per year and a well-established epidural service. There is dedicated consultant obstetric anaesthetic cover during the week. We run dedicated high risk obstetric clinics and seeing more patients preoperatively and establish Enhanced recovery as the norm.There are dedicated daily trauma lists as well as 8am to 2pm trauma lists at weekends. There are daily CEPOD lists that are consultant led.The main theatres are situated next to the ICU, ED and the department of radiology. There are separate dedicated maternity theatres. The emergency department has recently undergone extensive refurbishmentin order to improve the level and efficiency of service provided to the patients.

There is an excellent Postgraduate Centre at Darent Valley Hospital. This provides lecture and tutorial rooms and a dining room. Numerous meetings for Hospital Doctors and General Practitioners are held at the centre. There are regular educational sessions and meetings covering Case Presentation, Journal club, Histopathology joint meetings, General, Urological and Vascular X-ray meetings and Mammography Meetings.
