Job description

Overview

CAMHS has a long history of providing services to children and young people with moderate to severe mental health needs, learning disabilities and complex presentations of autism. The postholder will be the clinical lead for North Manchester Core CAMHS, providing assessment, intervention and support to this population. The postholder will link with clinicians and managers across MFT CAMHS and contribute to innovative delivery of psychological services for the whole service. MFT CAMHS has been at the forefront of national developments for CYP mental health, including research trials, development of innovative targeted teams, CYP-IAPT and i-THRIVE.

The postholder must demonstrate excellent working relationships with Children\'s Services, Community Health, Education, Parent Carer and other partner agencies as required.

Main duties

The post holder will lead provision of a district CAMHS psychological service to children and young people in North Manchester, including referral systems, intervention pathways and service evaluation. Services will include direct assessment, formulation and intervention with children and families, particularly those with complex psychological needs, including high risk. The role includes leading staff training, consultation and support and providing psychological advice, including multiagency liaison around complex cases. In conjunction with the Director of Psychological Services and other senior leads, to lead on innovative psychological practice. You will supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by all psychological practitioners and other clinical members of the North Manchester CAMHS district team, working autonomously within professional guidelines and exercising responsibility for governance of psychological practice within the service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Essential: Masters, doctoral degree or equivalent accepted by the British Psychological Society as qualifying to work as a Clinical Psychologist, or equivalent core professional qualification (e.g., Nursing, Social Work) with additional postgraduate therapeutic training (Masters level or above).
• Post-qualification registration with the appropriate regulatory body.

Experience

• Essential: Extensive post-qualification experience as a Clinical Psychologist or equivalent Psychological Professional; experience of management of qualified psychological practitioners; extensive experience in joint work with other statutory, voluntary or private sector organisations; extensive experience in assessment, formulation and therapeutic work with children and families; experience of exercising clinical responsibility for care and treatment within a multidisciplinary and multiagency context; extensive experience in consulting with health and other professionals; experience of innovative service development in CAMHS; extensive experience in teaching, training and/or supervision; high level knowledge of legislation and guidance for mental health needs of children and young people.
• Desirable: Experience in diverse contexts; experience representing psychological services in local policy fora; experience in service planning, performance management and budget management.
