A leading London city law firm is seeking a Construction Senior Associate to manage contentious construction matters. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in dispute advisory work, including ADR and litigation, alongside strong client relationship and problem-solving skills. Title - Construction Senior Associate

PQE - 6 Year + PQE

Background to the Firm

Ortus Group is working with a growing leading London city law firm based in luxury offices in the City of London. The business provide a comprehensive legal service to a wide range of businesses and private individuals. The client base includes multinationals, public and private companies, partnerships, public sector organisations and private clients. The Construction team

The Construction team sits as specialist unit within the firms incredibly well regarded Real Estate Services department, the construction team works for a wide range of clients including nationally known housebuilders, developers, industrial and commercial clients, entrepreneurs, HNW individuals, construction professionals, main contractors, and sub-contractors. Real Estate is one of the firm's core practice areas.

The candidate will actively assist in developing the practice by working on their own files, and with others on larger transactions. In accordance with the general practice of the firm, the candidate will have responsibility and client contact, and will enjoy the support and encouragement of other members of the team at all levels.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of contentious matters and dispute advisory work including ADR, mediation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation.
  • Provide legal and commercial advice to clients involved in construction disputes, working with other Team members to assess risks and provide innovative solutions to clients.
  • Instruct and liaise with Counsel and experts.
  • Draft relevant documents, letters and correspondence tailored to the client’s individual needs and requirements.
  • Correspond with clients, Counsel, experts and opposing solicitors, attend meetings and negotiate with opposing parties.
  • Proactively seek business development opportunities and build relationships with clients and potential clients.
  • Undertake administrative tasks such as completing timesheets and finalising bills for client work in a timely manner, and within Firm guidelines.
  • Keep up to date with changes and developments in the law by reading journals and law reports.
  • Undertake a range of continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure continuous learning and up to date knowledge.
Skills / Attributes required
  • Extensive experience of contentious construction work including dispute advisory, ADR, mediation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation dealing with wide range of claims including final account and delay claims, quality of build claims, building safety claims and professional negligence claims.
  • Experience with building safety claims in the FTT including remediation orders and remediation contribution orders.
  • Exceptional client relationship skills.
  • Commercial approach to problem solving to provide innovative solutions for clients.
  • Ability to deal with complex technical legal concepts.
  • Strong drafting skills, with outstanding attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication skills and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to manage a plethora of matters concurrently and prioritise a busy workload.
  • Willingness to actively participate in business development.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor and develop junior Team Members.
  • Proven resilience.
  • Positive can-do and pragmatic approach.
  • Able to work as an integral part of the Construction Team and the Firm in general.
