Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to support HS2 infrastructure works across the Central region of England. This role requires strong knowledge of railway systems and relevant qualifications, such as CSCS or NEBOSH. The successful candidate will ensure safe construction practices and compliance with standards while managing contractors on-site in Birmingham and beyond.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Construction Manager – HS2 Packages

Location: Birmingham + UK-wide site visits
Start Date: 13th October 2025
Contract Duration: Until March–September 2026 (role-dependent)
Employment Type: Contract

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to support major infrastructure works associated with the HS2 programme across the Central region of England.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Acting as the day-to-day site representative to ensure safe and efficient delivery of construction activities.
  • Reviewing and monitoring contractor method statements, risk assessments, and work package plans.
  • Leading engineering assurance activities in line with relevant standards and legislation.
  • Applying engineering controls, risk assessments, and HAZOP analysis.
  • Supporting testing, commissioning, and site supervision.
  • Promoting awareness of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant Railway Group and Network Rail standards.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in construction or engineering roles within the rail or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong understanding of railway systems and processes.
  • Familiarity with Network Rail standards and procedures.
  • Relevant technical qualifications (e.g., HNC or higher).
  • Certifications such as CSCS, CITB, or NEBOSH (for Construction Managers).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage contractors and multi-disciplinary teams.
Work Environment
  • Minimum three days per week based in Birmingham.
  • Regular travel to HS2 interface sites across Warwickshire, Birmingham, Lichfield, and the North Chilterns.
  • Engagement with contractors and consultancies nationwide.
