Complex & Forensic Support Worker

Community services play a critical role in modern health and social care, supporting people to live independently, safely and with dignity in their own homes. We are now recruiting experienced Support Workers with complex care and forensic background to join ASA to our network of support workers delivering high quality, risk informed support to individuals across Edinburgh.


This is a role suited to skilled Support Workers who can work confidently with adults presenting with complex needs, forensic histories, significant risk profiles and Risk management.


Main Duties

In this advanced role, you will


Provide trauma‑informed, psychologically aware support to adults with complex mental health needs, forensic backgrounds, personality disorders, substance use issues and behaviours that indicate risk.


Manage high risk or distressing situations using verbal de‑escalation, robust risk protocols, and recognition of early signs of deterioration or safeguarding concerns.


Deliver person‑centred, recovery‑focused support, including wellbeing checks, daily living assistance, reablement, community engagement and helping individuals maintain independence.


Implement and contribute to personalised care and risk management plans, working closely with clinical and senior staff, and participating in MDT discussions and case reviews.


Support individuals involved in the justice system, including those subject to legal orders or risk management plans, while contributing to safe community living, preventing avoidable admissions and supporting safe discharges.


Maintain high quality documentation and multi‑agency communication, completing accurate records (risk assessments, incidents, care notes) and collaborating with mental health teams, social work, GPs, MAPPA and other relevant partners to ensure cohesive care.


Who We’re Looking For

Significant experience working as a Support Worker, ideally within a complex care, forensic, mental health or high risk environment.


Understanding of reablement, justice services, and community based care pathways.


Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to build trust quickly with clients


A genuine passion for supporting others and making a positive difference every day


PVG membership or willingness to update


Awareness of Forensic observations, early warning signs and preventative approaches

Confidence working autonomously, including lone working in unpredictable or high risk scenarios.
