Job summary

A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Community Plumber to provide efficient maintenance and repair services across NHS properties in the Morecambe area. Candidates must have relevant plumbing qualifications, a full clean driving licence, and experience in emergency repairs. This full-time position offers a salary of £26,942 to £32,572 per annum, with additional on-call requirements. You will work under Atlas terms and conditions and contribute to the efficient transport service to clients.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years post-apprenticeship experience required.
  • Experience working in the NHS is preferred.

Job description
Community Plumber

The closing date is 11 December 2025.

This role is advertised on behalf of Atlas BFW Management Ltd, a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will work under Atlas terms and conditions. For more information, visit www.bfwml.co.uk. The post holder will contribute to the provision of an efficient transport service to Atlas clients, primarily at NHS properties in Lancaster, Blackpool, Kendal, Barrow and surrounding districts.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide an effective and efficient maintenance and repair service to all plumbing installations, including hot and cold water services, mains distribution, gas services, boilers, space heating systems, water storage tanks, sanitary fittings and firefighting equipment.
  • Perform installation and acceptance testing of new systems and equipment as required.
  • Work safely in hazardous areas and confined spaces, taking all required safety measures to prevent danger and injury.
  • Interpret detailed technical manuals, diagnose faults and repair specialist engineering facilities, assist in commissioning, problem‑solve new technical services and communicate technical knowledge to others.
  • Be conversant with the latest edition of the electrical safety code for low‑voltage systems for competent persons (LV).
  • Actively participate in the operation of the works helpdesk, completing work dockets in a timely manner.
  • Undertake essential repair work and general maintenance activities at the request of the Community Estates Manager.
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Trust procedures and schedules.
  • Complete maintenance inspection records and test certificates as necessary.
  • Work with engineering/technical drawings and specifications.
  • Investigate services required for new equipment and carry out minor installation improvement work.
  • Notify the Community Estates Manager of any problems within Trust premises that may pose danger to staff or the public, and complete accident forms and cooperate with investigations.
  • Follow risk assessments and health & safety policies when working in locked wards, health premises, learning disabilities and mental health accommodation.
  • Participate in staff development, appraisal and training, including continuous professional development.
  • Adhere to BFW Management Ltd Constitution, NHS and local policies covering health & safety, equal opportunities, data protection, financial management and other regulations.
  • Undertake any other tasks, duties and responsibilities as directed, subject to reasonable adjustments under Equality Act 2010.
  • Contribute to service improvement and wider development of the function.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
  • City and Guilds Plumbing or equivalent certificate.
  • Full clean current driving licence.
  • ACS gas certificate.
  • PASMA scaffolding certificate.
  • IPAF certification.
