Job summary

About the Role

As a Community Paediatric Therapist, you will be familiar with both appropriate standardised and informal assessments and a range of intervention approaches for the client group. You will develop and improve the speech, language and communication skills of children and young people through support, intervention, liaison and joint working with other staff and parents/carers and across agencies, maximising their potential and enabling maximum participation and inclusion within society.

Key Responsibilities

You will deliver assessment and intervention services, provide clinical supervision to junior staff, coordinate care plans, and participate in multidisciplinary team working across hospital and community settings.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • HCPC licence to practice
  • Registered member of RCSLT
  • Class 2 or Class 3 (UK) car driver
  • Previous experience working within the Paediatric SLT field (desirable)
  • Experience of working in partnership with Education and Early Years partners (desirable)

Employment Details

The post is subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period, unless currently part way through a probationary period or a bank member of staff.

Applicants who meet the Fit and Proper Person Requirements (FPPR) will require additional pre‑employment checks in line with CQC and NHS England statutory guidance.

Location and Work Setting

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country. You may work in schools, nurseries, early years settings and children and young people's homes.
