Summary

The Adult Health and Social Care Solicitor is responsible for providing expert legal services within the Community functional area focusing on Adult Protection and Community Care. This role involves advising on legal matters acting on the Councils instructions and representing the Council in court tribunals hearings and inquiries. The solicitor will manage a caseload that includes preparing court applications representing the Council and drafting necessary legal documents to support the teams functions.

Responsibilities
  • Attend and advise committees sub-committees and other Council groups as directed by the Director of Governance and Legal Services.
  • Provide general legal advice to Council Members Officers and associated bodies as instructed.
  • Implement Council decisions related to legal matters as allocated by the Director of Governance and Legal Services or the relevant Operational Manager.
  • Conduct litigation on behalf of the Council and act as the Councils advocate in various legal settings.
  • Prepare statutory orders undertake parliamentary work and draft by-laws.
  • Prepare documents for legal proceedings and perform statutory or administrative tasks required by Legal Services.
  • Handle disputes and complaints.
  • Stay updated on legal developments and advise the Council on relevant matters.
  • Assist in delivering a comprehensive legal service to the Council.
  • Contribute to staff and client training on legal issues.

Requirements
  • Competencies : Demonstrated ability in customer service task completion personal responsibility respect for others change initiation organisational awareness and communication at Level 3.
  • Education & Training : Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate or equivalent rights of audience.
  • Experience : Experience and knowledge in the functional area practical knowledge of public law and post-admission experience in practising the relevant area of law.
  • Skills and Abilities : Effective advocacy and communication skills good drafting skills ability to work independently proficiency in IT and capability to guide and supervise staff.
  • Personal Attributes : Effective team member commitment to high-quality work ability to work under pressure commitment to the Councils Equal Opportunities Policy and political awareness.

Note: The role requires flexibility in working locations and adherence to safeguarding policies.

Required Skills: Demonstrated understanding of equal opportunities and the diverse needs of individuals. Compliance with Council policies including safeguarding financial regulations and health and safety. Ability to work outside normal hours when required with appropriate compensation. Strong communication and engagement skills. Experience in legal practice particularly in local government law.
