Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Communications Officer for our client a government organisation in Newport.The successful post holder will support the Strategic Communication Manager and play a key role in the development and delivery of council communications and marketing activity and work closely with senior officers and members in order to protect the reputation and support the positive promotion of the organisation and city.This role is a temporary contract initially for 5 months with the possibility to extend. This role is flexible working, with remote working and onlyrequired to be on-site for specific meetings or events which will be pre-arranged.

DutiesandResponsibilitiesbutnotlimitedto:
  • Work with members and officers to prepare proactive, reactive and if asked statements to promote the council’s services, activities and events as well as protecting the organisation’s reputation.
  • Maintain good working relationships with all media, both locally and nationally, to promote a positive image of the work done across the organisation by all departments.
  • Ensure the corporate identity and values of the council are reflected in all external communications.
  • Ensure enquiries from media representatives are dealt with in a timely, open and honest manner.
  • Generate news, social media information, features, external information and editorial activity.
  • Support Cabinet Member briefings and liaise with the Strategic Communication Manager on outcomes where appropriate.
  • Liaise with partner organisations to ensure co-ordination of communications on public messages and ensure policy and procedures relating to news and communications are adhered to.
  • Operate the organisation’s social media accounts.
  • Provide communication and event delivery support for key organisational duties.
  • Develop appropriate information for residents, public and businesses using the full suite of communication tools including public relations, social media, website content and content for marketing materials.
  • Work with the Destination Development team to provide communication planning and delivery.
  • Brief graphics team to facilitate creative development in support of communication plans.
PersonalRequirements:
  • Undergraduate degree or degree level professional qualification in a relevant discipline, or significant relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Understanding of the role and challenges of local government.
  • Working knowledge of the media including approaches to newsgathering.
  • Experience working within communications, media or publishing.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with managers on communication / media / publishing.
  • Ability to quickly understand, interpret and clearly explain complex issues for a range of audiences and communication channels.
  • Ability to produce work of a high standard under pressure, often in situations where the organisations reputation may be at stake.
  • Evidence of strong relationship building skills.
Working Hours:

37 hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Monday - Friday

Pay:

£23.14 per hr
