Overview

With further project wins that will see our client continue their works for the next 10+ years, We are recruiting a Commercial Manager to lead the commercial division, built up of currently 5no. with further hires incoming. This role will suit either an experienced Commercial Manager or an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor looking to take the step up in their career.

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all commercial aspects of the projects and business overheads within their remit. This includes developing and executing commercial strategies aligned with the company's business objectives. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing project efficiency, driving cost savings, and delivering high-quality commercial insight. Your strong commercial acumen will be essential in identifying and managing opportunities while minimising risk to the business.

It is likely this will be a 2 stage interview process, a first stage via Teams and the second and final stage in person.

Responsibilities
  • Commercial Team Leadership — Lead and support the commercial team across multiple projects ensuring their capability is met and nurtured.
  • Mentor team members to develop their commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • Maximise margin through the review and improvement of commercial strategies.
  • Contractual advice during tender stages.
  • Enhance commercial procedures and practices to improve overall performance.
  • Oversee the monthly commercial audit process and manage dispute resolutions.
  • Ensure subcontractor processes are effectively managed to safeguard the company.
  • Audit & Compliance — Guarantee full compliance with company commercial procedures and corporate governance policies.
  • Conduct regular contract audits across regional projects.
  • Reporting and Governance — Conduct monthly reviews of project performance and contract results.
  • Prepare and manage cashflow forecasts and Work in Progress (WIP) reports.
  • Maintain accurate and timely monthly CVRs in line with business and unit needs.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance and compliance requirements.
  • Review and manage cost-to-complete forecasts across all projects.
  • Valuations and Cash Collection — Ensure timely submission of valuations and optimise monthly claims; Oversee the prompt collection of cash and manage final account settlements; Handle claims preparation, compensation event processes, and negotiations; Ensure all cost information is accurate and submitted within deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing a team of Quantity Surveyors.
  • Degree-qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Background in civil engineering, including utilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of various contract forms and strong contractual expertise, Specifically NEC3 Target Cost.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing commercial procedures.
  • Experience in managing budgets in excess of £10m.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
