A leading civil engineering firm in West Yorkshire is seeking a Commercial Administrator to support various project tasks including measurement, cost support, and procurement. The position offers a clear path for career development into a Quantity Surveyor with training and mentorship from experienced staff. Ideal candidates will have a basic understanding of civil engineering practices and a willingness to learn advanced skills related to cost management and contractor administration.
Due to continued and increased workload, We are recruting for a Commercial Administrator for one of our civil engineering rail clients based in West Yorkshire
This position has the opportunitiy, if desried by the successful individual, to progress into a Quantity Surveyor position with full support from the business.
Measurement & Take-Offs
Assist with quantifying materials and labour from drawings and specifications.
Prepare basic measurement sheets under supervision.
Learn and apply standard measurement methods
Cost Support
Help in preparing cost estimates and budgets.
Update cost data and maintain records for ongoing projects.
Support in tracking costs against budgets.
Procurement Assistance
Collect quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
Help prepare purchase orders and tender documents.
Maintain procurement logs and documentation.
Contract Administration
Assist in drafting simple contract documents.
Support in processing variations and change orders.
Learn to review subcontractor invoices for accuracy.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare basic cost reports and spreadsheets.
Maintain site records and update project documentation.
Assist with cash flow and valuation reports under guidance.
Support
Attend site visits to understand progress and measurements.
Record site measurements and assist with valuations.
Learn to identify commercial risks on-site.
Professional Development
Gain knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
Develop skills in software tools (e.g., Excel, estimating software).
Work closely with senior QS staff for mentoring and training.
Experience within Civil Engineering or rail is ideal but other sectors would be considered.
