Job description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy multi-disciplinary civil engineering team, managing coastal flood and erosion risk on the south coast.

Coastal Partners provides a Coastal Risk Management Service to Havant Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Gosport Borough Council, Fareham Borough Council and Chichester District Council that reduces the risks to people, and the developed and natural environment from flooding and coastal erosion. This area includes three major harbours of significant environmental importance and over 246km of coastline. With several exciting large-scale civil engineering projects in our portfolio, we are seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team.

As a Coastal Engineer, you will undertake the role of either an NEC Site Supervisor or Project Manager, where you will help to protect communities and shape our coastal landscape for future generations. Working across a variety of ground-breaking studies, design and construction projects, successful candidates will have the opportunity to be involved in all areas of the team’s work. We are particularly interested in knowledgeable candidates with experience or interest in the following roles:

  • NEC Site Supervisor — Working within the Major Projects Team, alongside engineers and construction management professionals, you will be involved in projects such as our multimillion-pound Southsea Coastal Scheme and North Portsea Coastal Scheme. You will undertake the role of an NEC Site Supervisor, supporting the Managing Supervisor in monitoring the construction works, resolving technical issues, undertaking tests, inspections, and surveys using GPS, total stations, laser scanners and UAVs, along with daily record keeping, stakeholder liaison and health & safety checks. You will be mostly site based and work alongside the client’s project and contract managers to successfully deliver the construction phase of our coastal engineering capital and maintenance projects.
  • Project Managers/Assistant Project Managers — Working across our project portfolio these roles provide experienced project management and design management during the appraisal, design and construction phases of our projects. The role involves leading or assisting with the project management function and managing a wide range of stakeholders. Project Managers (PM) are given responsibility for programme, budget, quality and scope. They manage work packages and report progress to a wide audience of interested stakeholders. They also devise and execute procurement strategies for external suppliers of both professional services and construction works and often deliver the role of NEC ECC Project Manager on construction contracts. Assistant Project Managers support our PMs with all aspects of project delivery, with opportunity to progress and lead their own projects with experience.

You will need a degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline, and applications are welcome from experienced candidates, graduates, and final year students, with relevant training provided to support your role as part of an integrated site team. This is a career graded post with the initial salary dependent on experience and qualifications.

What we can offer you

  • Career Grade D-H £27,254 to £51,356 per annum
