Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Coach Mechanic on a full-time permanent basis. The role will involve the upkeep, maintenance and repair of a fleet of minibuses and coaches, including up to 53-seater coaches. You will ensure that all vehicles are operating safely and efficiently.

The role requires a knowledge of vehicle mechanics and electrical systems and the ability to diagnose and fix faults. This is an important role in not only maintaining our fleet, but also making sure there is minimal downtime whilst delivering the highest level of safety.

Main Duties:
  • Identify faults and carry out scheduled servicing on large passenger coaches, focusing on engines, gearboxes, and braking systems.
  • Inspect and maintain brake systems; check pads, rotors, drums and ensure all components meet safety standards.
  • Monitor tyres for tread depth, pressure and alignment addressing issues promptly to maximise safety and efficiency.
  • Check and top-up engine oil, transmission, coolant, power steering, brake and differential fluids.
  • Perform electrical system checks, including lights (interior and exterior), turn signals, batteries, alternators and onboard PA systems.
  • Maintain Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems: test compressors, blowers, climate controls and replace air cabin filters for passenger comfort.
  • Carry out frame and underbody inspections to identify and treat corrosion, especially in areas exposed to the elements; apply protective coatings where necessary.
  • Test and maintain safety systems such as wheelchair lifts, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, first aid kits and safety signage.
  • Prepare coaches for MOT and DVSA inspections, conducting any required repairs to meet vehicle roadworthiness requirements.
  • Inspect and maintain water supply and drainage systems for coaches with onboard toilets.
  • Manage stock control of parts to ensure that commonly needed parts (such as filters, brake pads, batteries, etc.) are always available for repairs and maintenance.
