Hours: Variable seasonal hours to fit the business. November–March: 22.5 hours per week – 3 days a week including weekend race days where appropriate. April–October: 30 hours per week – 4 days a week including weekend race days where appropriate. Hours may vary by mutual agreement based on tidal patterns.
Job type: Part‑time permanent.
Reports to: Club Secretary
Responsible for: Supporting and giving direction to volunteer members.
Brading Haven Yacht Club is an active members club established 75 years ago. It is situated within Bembridge Harbour and has a waterfront club house with a bar, indoor and outdoor dining facilities, and a fleet of sailing dinghies, support vessels,wrecks, and pontoons.
Job purpose
To manage the day‑to‑day upkeep and maintenance of club boats, moorings, pontoons and club assets, including grounds maintenance, to ensure safety, operational readiness and a well‑presented environment. Act as a point of contact to members and visitors and assist with on‑water activities.
Main duties and responsibilities
hread-group>On‑Water Operations
- Operate the club launch and support all on‑water activities, including regattas and racing.
- Prepare and organise equipment for sailing events and other on‑water activities.
- Assist race officers and support regional and national events.
Grounds & Facilities Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and safety across club grounds, slipways, pontoons, dinghy parks and foreshore.
- Identify and address slip/trip hazards and report issuesiral when needed.
- Supervise volunteer maintenance groups and ensure safe working practices.
Moorings & Boat Park Management
- Maintain moorings, pontoons and slipways to required standards.
- Conduct regular checks of boats on moorings and ashore.
Club Vessel Maintenance
- Ensure all club vessels are operated safely and properly equipped.
- Develop and follow maintenance schedules for boats, engines and equipment.
- Clean and anti‑foul vessels as required.
- Manage fuel stores safely, refuel powerboats and maintain fuel and engine‑hour logs.
Unauthorised/Unused Vessel Management
- Assist with the removal of non‑compliant or unauthorised vessels on site.
- Provide practical support to members with vessel removal where appropriate.
Health, Safety & Training
- Promote safe working practices across the club.
- Support training for staff and members in the safe use of club vessels.
Member Welfare
- Monitor activity on the water and report welfare or safety concerns.

- Liaise with the club welfare officer as needed.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by senior management.

Person Specification
- Knowledge and experience of vessel maintenance for both sail and power.
- Practical understanding and application of seamanship skills.
- General sailing experience to Level 4 dinghy and/or coastal skipper standard (desirable.)
- Must hold a valid RYA Level 2 Powerboat certificate with a minimum of 3 years practical experience.
- RYA VHF SCR.
- RYA First Aid.
- Strong time‑management skills, especially working around tidal constraints of the harbour.
- Ability to work alone and with volunteers.
- Work as part of a team.
- Strong customer‑service ethic, supporting members on water experiences.
- Level of physical fitness in keeping with the requirements of the role.
