Job Overview

This is an exciting time to join the Children and Young People’s Directorate and be part of our existing and new leadership team. We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Clinical Ward Manager to cover maternity leave for our inpatient paediatric wards at CHFT. The role will include Ward 3 at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Ward 4 at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The Trust is currently undergoing a period of reconfiguration to enhance the services we provide for our patients, opening up an exciting opportunity to work on transformational change and focus on developing and enhancing patient pathways to meet the care needs of children, young people, and their families.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for a large team of qualified nurses, healthcare assistants, play workers, and ward clerks.
• Work closely with other clinical nurse managers, doctors, and the directorate leadership team to deliver excellent service for patients and their families.
• Act as a pivotal link in providing assurance to the wider divisional team and support the ward’s clinical and administrative aspects.
• Promote excellence in children’s nursing care delivery and develop seamless care pathways between the ward and the Paediatric Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service.
• Support nurses to realise their full potential as children’s nurses, placing children and their families at the centre of care.
• Ensure robust quality and governance assurance processes, clinical governance, risk management, and patient safety procedures are in place and effective.
• Assist with cost‑effective use of resources and support the other clinical managers in administrative duties.
• Work collaboratively with the Matron, Lead Nurse, General Manager, and senior paediatric medical team to respond to the needs of children, families, and staff.
