An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Radiation Physics team of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering at UCLH Trust. We are looking for a self-motivated clinical technologist to make a major contribution to the radiation protection services provided by the department, and particularly the personal dosimetry service, environmental monitoring, x-ray and ultrasound QC and monitor calibration services. Previous experience of working with a personal dosimetry service would be advantageous, but training will be provided if required.

Applications will be accepted from individuals who have an HND or BSc (Hons) degree in Physics or a Physics related subject.

The post is a full-time position working alongside a team of 14 clinical scientists and 1 other technologist.

The role requires knowledge or an understanding of radiation protection in healthcare. The role also requires an understanding of other physics services such as Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the team providing medical physics services you will work across all departments and sites within UCLH and cover a broad range of external customers in and around London.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a recently expanded team which includes 11 clinical scientists, one other technologist and two 'in-service' clinical scientist STP trainees. Radiation Physics are a motivated, enthusiastic and friendly team who are working hard to gain competency in a wide range of subject areas. We currently have three RPAs, two RWAs, 8 MPEs and three LPAs and are well placed to develop staff to achieve their best and develop their own careers.

Radiation Physics is part of the Medical Physics Department which can be found in the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing at UCLH. Radiation Physics is opposite the UCLH Grafton Way Building which houses one of two NHS Proton Beam Therapy Treatment Centres in the UK.

UCLH is located in central London with easy access to the West End and major transport hubs.

The nearest train stations are Euston, St Pancras and Kings Cross with a range of underground stations including Euston Square, Warren Street and Euston.

Essential criteria

• HND or equivalent in Engineering or Physical Science

Desirable criteria

• Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours Degree in Physics or physics related subject.
• Masters degree in physics or physics related subject
• Registration as Clinical Technologist or Member of IPEM / SRP / BIR

Experience

• Practical experience in radiation protection, ultrasound or diagnostic radiology
