Band 5: Clinical Research Assistant / Research Nurse (Stroke)

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Research Assistant / Research Nurse to join the Stroke Research Centre is available at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role will support research delivery to all clinical studies on the portfolio in line with the aims of the National Institute for Health Research and the North London Research Delivery Network.

This post is open to science graduates, registered nurses and all allied healthcare professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and clinical psychologists.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work closely with the Lead Research Practitioner and fellow research practitioners and nurses to ensure successful research delivery to the stroke portfolio. The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating research including data collection, data management, preparation, storage and analysis of samples and submission of data generated to scientific meetings. The registered research nurse will be expected to prepare and administer investigational medicinal products as per trial protocol. The post-holder will need to demonstrate willingness to work flexibly and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.

Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Science Graduate, Registered Nurse or Allied Healthcare Professional e.g. Physio, OT, SLT, Clinical Psychologist
  • Knowledge of stroke or in the implementation and conduct of research trials.
  • Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Clinical Research Practitioner or working towards this
Experience
  • Post-registration nursing or CRP experience
  • Proven effectiveness as working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working in a stroke setting
  • Clinical research delivery experience
  • Experience of formal / informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Experience of phlebotomy and cannulation
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to prioritise and manage workload in a timely manner

  • Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
