A prominent healthcare organization is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to join their Paediatric Psychology team in Leeds for a 12-month fixed-term role. The successful candidate will engage in delivering specialist psychological assessments and therapies for children. This role requires autonomous work within a multidisciplinary team, offering extensive clinical experiences and professional development opportunities. A strong background in clinical psychology is necessary, along with the ability to work effectively with families and healthcare professionals.
TheLeeds Childrens Hospital is looking to recruit a B7 Clinical Psychologist toour Paediatric Psychology team for a 1.0 WTE (subject to approval ofadditional hours) 12 months Fixed Term post. The post holder will workalongside Senior Clinical Psychologists to support the Regional PaediatricDiabetes, Chronic Pain and Cystic Fibrosis teams through multi-disciplinaryteam (MDT) and outpatient working (with one day a month at the Hull RoyalInfirmary), as well as contributing towards the Department's inpatient wardcover rota.
Youwill be working as part of supportive and friendly clinical teams, alongsideexperienced as well as more recently qualified psychology colleagues. Thepost will be flexible to suit a candidates preferences, and your job planwill offer a wide range of clinical experiences, including specialty work asan integrated part of the MDT, in-patient, out-patient and consultativeworking, as well as liaison with medical MDTs and colleagues in Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service.
Wefully adhere to the BPS position on CPD and have a strong track record ofproviding excellent training opportunities and clinical supervision in a widerange of therapy modalities. Furthermore,we have an established peer supervision framework and there is an activeregional post-qualification training group, which you would be encouraged tojoin.

Toprovide a qualified clinical psychology service in Paediatric Psychology:
a) providing specialist psychologicalassessment and therapy to patients and their families living with long termconditions.
b) offering advice and consultation onpatients psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to othernon-professional carers
c) using research skills for audit,policy and service development and leading on research projects within theareas served by the teams/service
d) working autonomously in the executionof these duties and within professional guidelines and the overall frameworkof the Psychology Teams, Department and Trust policies and procedures.

We have over 20inpatient wards, employ over 800 nurses and last year held over 170,000outpatient appointments and treated over 25,000 surgical patients bothelectively/non-electively.

Clinical:
1. To provide specialist psychologicalassessments of patients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation andintegration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychologicaland neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct andindirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews withpatients, family members and others involved in the patients care.
2. To formulate and implement plans forthe formal psychological treatment and/or management of a patientspsychological problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of thepatients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy,across the full range of care settings, including integration intomultidisciplinary team clinics.
3. To be responsible for implementing arange of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families andgroups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis,adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon differentexplanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
4. To evaluate and make decisions abouttreatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic modelsand highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes,as well as condition specific factors,that have shaped the individual,family or group.
5. To exercise autonomous professionalresponsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of patients whosedifficulties are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
6. To provide specialist psychologicaladvice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributingdirectly to patients formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans and to workalongside colleagues from different disciplines as required.
7. To contribute directly and indirectlyto a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefitof all patients of the services, across all settings and agencies serving thepatient group.
8. To undertake risk assessment and riskmanagement for individual patients and to provide advice to other professionson psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management withparticular reference to deliberate self-harm.
9. To act as care coordinator, whereappropriate, taking responsibility for initiating planning and review of careplans under enhanced CPA (or its equivalent in the acute physical health caresetting) including patients, their carers, referring agents and othersinvolved the network of care.
10. To communicate in a skilled andsensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation andtreatment plans of patients under their care and to monitor progress duringthe course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary care.
Teaching,training, and supervision:
1. To receive regular clinicalprofessional supervision from a clinical psychologist and, where appropriate,other senior professional colleagues*.
*Please note that all post holders of clinical psychology posts receiveclinical supervision. This is not to be confused with management supervisionin AFC terms.
2. To develop skills in the area ofprofessional post-graduate teaching, training and supervision and to providesupervision to other multidisciplinary staffs psychological work, asappropriate.
3. To provide professional and clinicalsupervision of assistant/graduate psychologists and, as appropriate, tocontribute to the supervision of individual cases for trainee clinicalpsychologists.
4. To contribute to the pre- andpost-qualification teaching of clinical and/or counselling psychology, asappropriate.
5. To provide advice, consultation andtraining to staff working with the patient group across a range of agenciesand settings, where appropriate.
Management,recruitment, policy and service development:
1. To contribute to the development,evaluation and monitoring of Trust and the Department operational policiesand services, through the deployment of professional skills in research,service evaluation and audit.
2. To advise Senior, Principal or LeadConsultant Clinical Psychologist on those aspects of the service wherepsychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
3. To manage the workloads of assistantand graduate psychologists within the framework of the Trust and theDepartments policies and procedures.
4. To be involved, as appropriate, inthe short listing and interviewing of assistant / graduate psychologists.
Researchand service evaluation:
1. To use theory, evidence-basedliterature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual workand work with other team members.
2. To undertake, as a major component ofthe post, appropriate research and provide research advice to other staffundertaking research.
3. To lead on research projects withinthe area served by the team/service.
4. To undertake project management,including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within theservice to help develop service provision.
General:
1. To contribute to the development andmaintenance of the highest professional standards of practice through (a)active participation in internal and external CPD training and developmentprogrammes in consultation with the Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist andDepartment Supervision Co-ordinator, and (b) the encouragement and activeparticipation of service users in the design, provision and evaluation ofclinical services.
2. To contribute to the development andarticulation of best practice in psychology across the service, by continuingto develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner,taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintainingan active engagement with current developments in the fields of clinicalpsychology, neuropsychology and related disciplines.
3. To maintain the highest standards ofclinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, reportwriting and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance inaccordance with professional codes of practice of the British PsychologicalSociety and Trust policies and procedures.
4. To maintain up to date knowledge oflegislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to thespecific patient group, mental health, clinical psychology, and healthpsychology in general.
