Overview

Fixed term contract/secondment opportunity until 31/03/2026. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our Paediatric psychology team to serve the needs of young people and their families with acute and long-term health conditions. This is an opportunity to join a vibrant, friendly and supportive psychology team in the Paediatric Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).

We have Clinical Psychologists working in the Paediatric specialties of Diabetes, NICU, Epilepsy, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and Childhood Obesity, with ambition to expand. This post will include work within several paediatric specialties, including paediatric epilepsy.

Although this is a band 8A post, they are also open to newly qualified psychologists at a band 7. Newly qualified staff who are yet to be HCPC registered will be temporarily appointed at Band 6. Experience in Paediatrics is desirable but not essential; a passion for working with children, young people and their families is essential.

The post will involve working with children, young people and families on psychological issues, such as the impact of the health condition and the challenges associated with managing this. This will include outpatient and inpatient assessment and therapy for families, as well as offering advice, consultation and training to the wider team. The post requires strong teamwork within multidisciplinary teams, including medical consultants, specialist nurses, dieticians and physiotherapists, and effective communication with families and the wider MDT.

Responsibilities
  • Work with children, young people and families on psychological issues related to health conditions.
  • Provide outpatient and inpatient assessment and therapy for families.
  • Offer advice, consultation and training to the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
  • Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner with families and the MDT.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Band 8A post, with openness to newly qualified psychologists at Band 7; newly qualified staff without HCPC registration may be appointed at Band 6.
  • Experience in Paediatrics is desirable but not essential; a passion for working with children, young people and families is essential.
  • HCPC registration is required or anticipated where applicable.
