A healthcare trust in East London is seeking Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to lead a newly commissioned mental health treatment service for men in the criminal justice system. Responsibilities include operational service delivery and supervising clinical teams. Experience in mental health treatment and forensic settings is desirable. The position supports flexible working arrangements, including job shares.
This is an exciting opportunity to jointly lead and develop a newly commissioned North East London (NEL) men’s Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) service to reduce custodial sentences and improve wellbeing for men in the criminal justice system with mental health needs. The NEL service is jointly provided by East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) and North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT). MHTRs, introduced by the Criminal Justice Act 2003, recognise that mental health and substance misuse underpin offending behaviour. This service aims to increase the use of primary care treatment requirements as part of community sentences, offering psychologically informed interventions and providing courts with information and confidence to sentence to robust and effective treatment requirements.
NELFT and ELFT are recruiting two 0.6 WTE B8b Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to lead the service across North East London; posts operate as a jobshare across the NELFT and ELFT catchment. There are equivalent posts being recruited in North West London (CNWL) and South London (Oxleas). The clinical leads and services are expected to work closely together to cover courts across London throughout the year.
ELFT has a record of excellence in mental health care and innovation. The Trust emphasizes values: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive, and a commitment to quality improvement. The organisation supports flexible working arrangements, including job share or part-time patterns. A service user will be on the assessment centre and interview panel if invited to meet us. ELFT values diversity and welcomes applicants who have lived experience of health difficulties and reflect diverse backgrounds and cultures.
EEA statements and equality, diversity and inclusion considerations are part of the recruitment process, with the Trust aiming to reflect the populations it serves and to provide accessible, fair and inclusive practices throughout the employee journey.
