Clinical Fellow in Sarcoma/Hip Arthroplasty Orthopaedic Surgery

Post: Orthopaedic Clinical Fellowship – Sarcoma and Hip Arthroplasty Surgery

Grade: MT05

Contract: 12‑month fixed term, starting March 2026

Applications for specialist registrar training completed surgeons with FRCS (T&O) or equivalent are invited to apply.

Fellowship starts on the first Monday of March.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration.

Main duties

Clinical commitment: Gain further experience in hip and knee surgery and sarcoma surgery under direct supervision of consultants. Conduct clinics, operating lists, ward rounds, and assist with clinical management.

On‑call rotations: 1:20 Resident on‑call 0800‑2030; 1:20 Non‑resident on‑call 2000‑0800; 1:20 Resident on‑call 2000‑0830.

Fellowship will focus on one of three areas each six‑month period: Revision arthroplasty, soft‑tissue knee surgery, orthopaedic oncology, or hip arthroscopy. Candidates should indicate two areas of preference.

Job responsibilities

Full‑time fixed term contract, 6 to 12 months, resident on‑call periods, out‑of‑hours commitment, up‑to‑date statutory training.

Salary: Local appointment grade MT05.

Qualifications
  • Full current GMC registration with a license to practice

Experience
  • Minimum 18 months hip and knee surgery during specialist training
  • Understanding of audit, clinical risk management and evidence‑based practice
  • Knowledge of research methodology and ethics with potential to contribute to research
  • Demonstrated leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills
  • Ability to manage time and tasks, prioritise clinical needs
  • Competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
  • Sound note‑keeping skills and validated logbook documentation of surgical exposure
  • Good personal, interpersonal and written English skills; high communication proficiency
  • Experience teaching undergraduates and trainees
  • Participation in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement projects with evidence of publications and awards
