A leading healthcare provider in Scotland is seeking a fellow for a 12-month Glaucoma Surgical Fellowship. The role includes extensive training in advanced surgical techniques for glaucoma, involvement in research, and a teaching component. Candidates must be experienced independent cataract surgeons and have completed their residency. This position is based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and offers a unique opportunity to develop comprehensive glaucoma management skills in a supportive environment.

This post is designed to provide higher sub‑speciality training in glaucoma care for a period of up to 12 months.

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Princess Alexandra Eye Pavillion St. Johns Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for a 12‑month clinical glaucoma fellowship based in Scotland’s capital city. The post will provide broad experience in all aspects of the management of glaucoma, including complex glaucoma surgery. Successful candidates will work closely with the Edinburgh glaucoma consultants Andrew Tatham, Pankaj Agarwal, Tej Malcolm and Mei Ling Cheng.
The fellow is expected to be a competent independent cataract surgeon and already have completed residency (CCT). Ideally, they will also have experience in glaucoma surgery. Training will be offered in trabeculectomy, Baerveldt tube surgery, Ahmed valves, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (Cypass and Xen procedures). Exposure to complex glaucoma and cataract surgery will also be provided. The fellow will be trained in SLT laser.
The fellow will work in our development virtual clinics and contribute to the department’s research programme. The department is involved in several commercial studies of new medical and surgical treatments and expects the fellow to publish the results of their research work.
The post does not have an on‑call component, but the fellow will manage emergency glaucoma patients. The fellowship also includes a teaching role, contributing to the post‑graduate teaching programme at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavillion and teaching specialist trainees. The fellow will give advice and assistance to junior medical staff in training.
Some parts of the job plan may be flexible and finalised before commencement of employment, after discussion with the successful applicant.
