A leading cardiac care facility in Liverpool is seeking a full-time Senior Clinical Fellow in Complex Coronary Intervention. The role focuses on developing skills in complex interventions under the supervision of experienced cardiologists. Responsibilities include conducting outpatient clinics, managing acute coronary syndrome patients, and participating in catheter lab sessions. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to progress towards a consultant role in interventional cardiology. The position is full-time and fixed-term for 12 months.
Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is the largest single site specialist heart and chest hospital in the UK. The organisation provides specialist services in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, respiratory medicine (including adult cystic fibrosis) and diagnostic imaging, in the hospital and in the community. It serves a catchment area of 2.8 million people across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man, with referrals from outside these areas for highly specialised services such as aortics.
Our reputation for strong performance supports delivering the best care for patients and high quality clinical services. This is underpinned by a culture of research and innovation, delivered in a modern estate and facilitated by technology. Partnerships with other providers aim to extend access and improve quality. The vision is supported by five strategic goals: Quality, Service and Innovation, Value, Workforce, and Stakeholders. The mission is “Excellent, Compassionate and Safe care for every patient, every day.”
The post is full time at Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the 12 interventional cardiologists at the trust and for joint appointees. The appointee will be exposed to all aspects of clinical cardiac intervention with a focus on complex intervention. Outpatient work will involve general cardiology and pre-assessment for day-case PCI. The appointee will be jointly responsible for management of patients transferred to LHCH with acute coronary syndromes and will participate in the primary PCI programme.
The successful candidate will receive intensive training in interventional cardiac intervention including rotablation, lithotripsy, LASER atherectomy, IVUS, OCT, pressure wire, thrombus aspiration and coronary sinus reducer. They will participate in the hospital's CTO programme and are expected to become independent operators in all but the most complex cases by the end of the twelve-month post.
There will be regular emergency cover as part of the cardiology SpR rota supervised by consultant staff. The post includes a commitment to contributing to the rota for ACS PCI weekend lists alongside the on-call interventional consultant (separate from the on-call commitment) to provide valuable training opportunities.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early; interested applicants are advised to apply promptly. All applicants will be contacted regarding shortlisting. As part of pre-employment checks, satisfactory references are required (at least one written reference from current or most recent employer; references accepted from professional work email addresses).
Care Certificate requirements apply for applicable new starters from April 2015. All new starters in clinical, patient-facing posts (bands 1-4) are expected to complete all 15 standards within six months. Flexible working applications will be considered in line with Trust policies. The Trust is a no-smoking site. UKVI sponsorship guidance applies; many posts are not eligible for sponsorship.
