Job overview

Available 26 hours per week. Surgical Oncology Clerk/Typist. Working part‑time, flexible working pattern. Permanent contract. Band 2 salary £24,465 a year.

Responsibilities
  • Typing of medical reports, correspondence, clinic letters and discharge summaries into a computerised system.
  • Managing telephone enquiries from hospital staff, outside agencies and patients.
  • Dealing with correspondence, incoming and outgoing, for senior members of the department.
  • Providing cover in reception clerical duties, filing, photocopying and faxing.
  • Co‑ordinating referrals to treatment targets and supporting specialist teams.
  • Maintaining knowledge of office equipment and participating in the appraisal process.
Person specification
  • Essential skills & behaviours – Self‑motivated, accurate typing, calm under pressure, team worker, reliable, polite, professional appearance.
  • Essential qualifications – RSA II typing, audio typing, Microsoft Word, keyboard/data entry; general education standard.
  • Desirable qualifications – ECDL certificate, other Microsoft applications, hospital experience, medical terminology knowledge.
  • Desirable experience – Secretarial role, use of information technology.
