Clerk of Works

The Capital, Estates and Facilities Directorate are seeking to recruit a qualified Clerk of Works with experience of working in a healthcare engineering environment. You will be expected to work as part of a team on a wide range of technically challenging capital projects and will work within the Capital Planning and Development Team alongside project and engineering managers, Clerks of Works and support staff.

Main duties of the job

• Responsible for monitoring, examining and keeping accurate records of works carried out by contractors on both major and minor schemes in properties owned or controlled by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, ensuring that all contractors commissioned meet the specified standards required.
• Responsible for completing all relevant documents relating to the standards of work and the resources used by a contractor at all stages of a project and bringing to the attention of the appropriate senior managers issues of importance or potential concern.
• Expected to take responsibility for all aspects of health and safety such as evaluation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), policies and procedures prior to the commencement and during the delivery of a project.
• Monitor the quality of work undertaken in relation to the Quality Standards set for a project with an appropriate level of understanding of work procedures and practices underpinned with knowledge and understanding of the construction industry.
• Provide a supervisory role and advice to colleagues, contractors, external stakeholders and other Trust staff.

Person Specification – Qualifications

• Qualified to NVQ level 4 in Construction or other relevant qualifications
• A building qualification is desirable; however, relevant experience of building construction or refurbishment could be considered
• A Health and Safety Professional Qualification
• Degree in Construction
• A member of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI)

Person Specification – Experience

• Previous extensive Clerk of Works experience preferably in an acute hospital environment working in both clinical and non‑clinical areas

• The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
