Job summary

A prominent facilities management company is seeking a Cleaning Supervisor in Portsmouth to oversee and coordinate the cleaning team. You will manage daily operations, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and provide training to staff. The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience, strong leadership and organizational skills, and a professional attitude. This role offers a pay rate of £14.84 per hour with a shift pattern of 6am to 6pm, working four days on and four days off.

Overview

Reports to: Cleaning and Environmental Manager and Cleaning Lead. Location: Gunwharf Quays. Department: Cleaning and Environmental. Working hours: 6am to 6pm (4 days on 4 days off) = average 42 hours per week. Pay Rate: £14.84.


Responsibilities


  • Oversee and coordinate the cleaning team to ensure areas are maintained to high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety.

  • Manage daily operations, allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Supervise and manage a team of cleaning staff, undertake daily inspections, and ensure staff are productive and safe.

  • Shift-based work, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as required.

  • Maintain regular contact with the client and guests as required.

  • Deal with issues efficiently and in a professional manner, referring to Site/Line Manager where appropriate.

  • Organise work schedules, assign duties, and manage staff attendance.

  • Provide training and guidance to new and existing team members; liaise with Manager for additional training.

  • Ensure cleaning is delivered to the expected and agreed standards.

  • Monitor and review cleaning staff performance; take appropriate action as needed.

  • Advise Line Manager of potential disciplinary issues as and when they arise.

  • Take ownership of health and safety for yourself and others at work; ensure compliance with company policies and health and safety regulations.

  • Maintain records of cleaning activities and safety checks; maintain up-to-date training records.

  • Monitor and manage cleaning supplies and equipment; ensure best use of resources.

  • Act as the main point of contact between cleaning staff and Management; handle staff queries and escalate issues when necessary.

  • Report hazards or maintenance issues immediately; report all machinery faults.

  • Ensure that all cleaning tasks are carried out in accordance with the specification and task schedules.

  • Ensure cleaning operatives work the correct hours and take correct breaks; distribute uniforms and monitor standards of cleanliness.

  • Keep machinery, equipment and the cleaning cupboard in a clean and tidy state.

  • Work on bank holidays if contracted to do so.
