Written for engineers who want more than routine design work, this role offers real variety, responsibility, and the chance to build a standout career.

Our client is looking for a technically strong civil engineer with a particular focus on Flood Risk Assessments and underground drainage design. The successful candidate will be hands‑on in shaping projects from early feasibility through to detailed design, working on a wide range of developments that demand smart, sustainable, and resilient solutions. This is a role for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, values collaboration, and wants their work to genuinely influence outcomes.

Day to day, the engineer will be producing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies, designing surface and foul water drainage systems, and contributing to flood alleviation and coastal erosion schemes. Close collaboration with planners, architects, and fellow engineers is a key part of the role, ensuring integrated and well‑considered designs. For those not yet chartered, the position offers clear support and encouragement to progress towards professional qualification.

The ideal candidate will already have experience in a consultancy environment, with a solid understanding of SUDS, attenuation systems, and infiltration design. Confidence using Civil 3D and InfoDrainage is essential, alongside strong written and verbal communication skills that allow technical ideas to be clearly articulated.

In return, our client offers a competitive salary and benefits package, tailored to experience and qualifications, within a supportive and progressive working environment. Engineers joining the team can expect genuine investment in their development, access to mentoring and training, and the opportunity to grow alongside a respected and expanding consultancy.

For a civil engineer in York looking for stimulating projects, professional growth, and a role with real momentum, this is one not to miss.
