A metropolitan borough in the West Midlands is hiring a Chief Accountant on a permanent basis. This senior leadership position requires stewardship of the Council's financial integrity, overseeing financial controls, and leading the financial accounting teams. The ideal candidate will hold a CCAB qualification and have substantial experience in local government finance. The role includes leading compliance with regulations and managing external auditor relationships, playing a critical part in supporting the Deputy Section 151 Officer. This is a senior leadership role within Finance, responsible for the stewardship of the Council’s financial integrity, statutory reporting, financial control environment and technical accounting functions. The postholder will play a critical role in supporting the Deputy Section 151 Officer and ensuring the highest professional standards across the authority.
