Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Chef to join our Catering Services team at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr.

You will play a vital role in preparing and delivering high-quality, nutritious meals for patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and meeting diverse dietary needs.

This post is 37.5 hours per week to worked 08:00 - 16:00, Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals to the highest standards, including special diets and allergen-specific requirements.
  • Follow Health Board catering policies, HACCP procedures, and food safety legislation.
  • Maintain accurate production and temperature records.
  • Supervise and support catering assistants, assisting with training and induction.
  • Ensure food is correctly labelled, stored, and portioned to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Contribute to stock control and assist with ordering perishable items.
  • Uphold excellent hygiene and health & safety practices at all times.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of full range of work procedures, practices and equipment for a catering service, including food hygiene processes; vocational level 3 qualification or equivalent plus knowledge for special diets acquired through training and experience to diploma equivalent level This must include: City and Guilds 7061 & 7062, or NVQ level 2 in professional Cookery
  • Level 2 in Food Safety.
  • Able to menus & recipes to meet requirements of the customer.
  • To be Conversant of Natasha's Law & NHS Food and Hydration Standards
  • Trained Level 3 or 4 Food safety
  • NVQ Level 3 advanced professional cookery
Experience
  • Working knowledge of HACCP principles and their specific application for catering
  • Previous chef experience in large scale food production
