Job description
Chef Supervisor, Full Time, Southend Campus

Chef Supervisor (Full Time) – Southend Campus, Monday – Friday (varying shifts). Out of term work based at the Thurrock campus. The operation includes a student/staff refectory and an express‑style coffee shop.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the student refectory.
  • First point of contact for Southend campus catering.
  • Deliver 2‑week cycle menu in student dining and oversee food quality and delivery for the dining room.
  • Oversee all hospitality delivery at Southend campus.
  • Support the commercial operation at Thurrock campus out of term.
  • Work customer‑facing, including serving, till operation and back‑of‑house cooking.
  • Hands‑on cleaning and maintain excellent hygiene standards.
  • Oversee stocking of all service areas, including front of house.
Qualifications
  • Experience as a chef within contract catering, restaurant, hotel, pub or similar environment.
  • Good IT experience.
  • Good knowledge of HACCP and food safety management to maintain an elite 5‑star EHO rating.
  • Good understanding of performance management and employee appraisal; ability to engage a team.
  • Good knowledge of food production, menu development and presentation.
  • Good understanding of stock control and ordering.
  • Good understanding of profit and loss.
  • UK driving licence and own vehicle.
  • Willingness to learn barista skills if not already trained.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in an education setting.
  • Level 3 Food Safety.
  • Level 3 HACCP.
  • Level 2/3 catering qualification.
Working Hours
  • Typical pattern (subject to change): 7:30 – 16:30, Monday – Thursday; 8:00 – 14:00, Friday (one on one off).
