The role

Gateley Smithers Purslow is seeking a full-time Chartered Building Surveyor to join our expanding team in Reigate. The position primarily involves work in Surrey, Kent, and surrounding areas. This busy and diverse role supports the Surveying team across various projects, including insurance work and residential buildings of all construction types. It offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to demonstrate ambition, drive, and passion for customer service, aligned with our values. You will be responsible for:

  1. Inspecting and advising on design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of buildings and sites.
  2. Conducting acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys, and defect investigations.
  3. Preparing reports, schedules of works, and specifications.
  4. Designing and overseeing works using recognized building contracts and current technical standards.
  5. Managing large projects independently with comprehensive knowledge of professional consultancy services.
  6. Understanding and applying relevant legislation such as health and safety, party wall, building regulations, and planning.
  7. Promoting the company’s services to secure projects and enhance the Gateley Smithers Purslow brand.
  8. Supervising and supporting APC candidates to foster knowledge and understanding.
  9. Complying with the company’s administrative, personnel, and Health & Safety procedures.

The person

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • MRICS accreditation
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural, and planning practices, supported by awareness of statutory requirements and technical publications.
  • Experience in defect diagnosis and report writing
  • Insurance repair project experience (preferred)
  • Negotiation, supervisory, and leadership skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within budgets on large projects
  • Knowledge of CDM Regs 2015, Party Wall, and Building Regulations legislation
  • Strong mathematical, scientific, and IT skills with a methodical problem-solving approach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptable work attitude
