Job description
Overview

The Young Foundation is the UK’s leading centre for community research and social innovation, responsible for the creation of such household names as The Open University, Which? or NHS Direct, among others. As civic governance evolves and the need for inclusive, participatory democracy grows, we are reshaping the social contract between people, communities, government, and business to build a fairer future.

With strong momentum and a solid foundation established by Helen Goulden, we now seek a visionary Chief Executive to lead our next chapter. This is a rare opportunity to unite research and innovation in bold, impactful ways—defining what comes next for communities and society.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership to advance the organisation’s mission and growth in a competitive environment that rewards agility and innovation.
  • Lead the integration of research and innovation activities with a focus on social impact and societal value.
  • Engage with a diverse Board of Trustees to shape governance, strategy, and external relations.
Qualifications
  • Proven track record of leading dynamic, growth-oriented organisations, with experience in expanding consultancy or similar business units into new markets.
  • Strategic insight, entrepreneurial drive, and inclusive leadership with the ability to balance commercial acumen with deep social understanding.
  • Nuanced grasp of the social challenges facing UK communities and knowledge of policy landscapes at local, regional, and national levels.
