Job description

Elvet Recruitment are on the lookout for a CDM Advisor/Principal Designer for a business based in the North East.

This role involves providing Principal Designer and CDM advisory services across a wide range of construction projects throughout the UK. Covering sectors such as healthcare, education, commercial, retail, mixed-use developments, and residential schemes.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake the duties of Principal Designer as defined under the CDM Regulations 2015, including site visits, the preparation of pre-construction documentation, and coordination of health and safety information.
• Manage a portfolio of projects, acting as the main point of contact between clients, design teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and compliant project delivery.
• Provide specialist advice and guidance on CDM compliance, risk management, and health and safety throughout the design and construction process.
• Review design information, construction drawings, and project documentation to identify and mitigate potential design, construction, and maintenance risks.
• Lead or participate in design and project meetings, including temporary works discussions and design risk workshops.
• Carry out site inspections and risk appraisals at pre-construction and construction stages.
• Prepare and issue health and safety documentation, including pre-construction information and relevant reports.
• Review and comment on Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements prepared by contractors.
• Support the development of design risk registers and ensure that safety considerations are fully integrated into the design process.

Qualifications and Experience

• IMaPS or CMaPS accreditation (membership of the Association for Project Safety).
• At least 2-5 years' experience working as a Principal Designer or CDM Advisor.
• Strong knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015 and other related health and safety legislation.
• Experience reviewing design and construction drawings, and conducting design risk reviews.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
• Competent user of Microsoft Office and other relevant project management software.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
• Capable of managing multiple projects and priorities independently.
• Full UK driving licence required.
