Job description

Belmont Recruitment are looking for an experienced Category Manager to join a leading waste management organisation. This role sits within the Procurement team and focuses on managing third‑party subcontractors who provide waste haulage and disposal services across multiple waste streams.

This is a temporary contract for 3 months with a view to extend onto a FTC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and manage strategic category plans for haulage and waste disposal
  • Lead competitive tendering processes and procure subcontracted waste services
  • Negotiate rates and contractual terms across all waste streams
  • Manage third‑party subcontractor relationships to ensure performance, compliance and value
  • Analyse market trends, cost drivers and risk factors to support decision‑making
  • Work closely with operational, commercial and procurement teams to align category strategies
  • Ensure all activity supports wider Group Procurement initiatives and governance
  • Drive continuous improvement, cost optimisation and supplier innovation
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience in category management, procurement or commercial roles
  • Strong background in waste management, haulage, transportation, or related sectors
  • Experience managing third‑party subcontractor relationships
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to lead tender processes and manage complex service contracts
  • Understanding of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste streams (desirable)
