About the Role

As a Mental Health Assistant your roleis to work with the team to provide basic nursing care under the supervisionand direction of Registered Nurses. This can include working with challengingbehaviours.

As this is a casual position, covering staff leave and periods of peak service demand, it will be important that you have the flexibility and availability to cover a range of shifts, sometimes at short notice. You'll be required to work across morning,afternoon and night shifts. This includes weekends and school holidays. Someforward planning and rostering will be available when covering planned leave.

About the Team/Location

The Older Persons' Mental HealthInpatient Unit, at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond, provides psychiatric andgeriatric care for the older members of our community. We aspire to providehigh quality inpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and/orcomplex age related health conditions. We work in partnership with ourpatients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supportsto achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient.

  • We are looking for someone withexcellent communication skills, who has experience in older persons' healthcare, and has an affinity with the elderly. It is equally important that youare able to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty andreliability and use appropriate initiative.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • Year11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
  • Year11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)

Preferred

  • NZQALevel 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand (orequivalent)
