We are looking for Casual Café & Events Assistants to support the smooth running of our Community Café and Conferencing space. Working as part of our team, shifts are offered as part of a planned rota to support large events and to cover last-minute absences, sickness, holidays, etc. As a member of our Casual team, you would be under no obligation to accept shifts offered, but we hope you will be flexible and accommodating to ensure we have the cover needed to operate at full potential.

  • Welcome visitors in a warm, friendly manner.
  • Serve drinks and food products efficiently and politely, including for bespoke events and conference facilities.
  • Support the Hospitality Team in setting up, delivering and clearing away events.
  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive and community-focused environment.
  • Check and maintain stock levels throughout shifts.
  • Keep the food and drink storage clean and tidy on shifts.
  • Clean and tidy the café, bar and conference areas on shifts, following COVID-safe practices.
About You

You are looking to work more flexibly and not be tied to a specific rota, but still want to work. You may have another job or be seeking additional hours to fit around studies or other commitments; we can explore your availability. Evenings and weekends are likely to be key times when casual staff are called upon.

With previous experience in a bar or hospitality environment, you will be customer-centric and able to welcome customers and build rapport to make them feel comfortable. You will have high standards of customer service and strive to do your best every day. You will need to be confident speaking with customers and communicating clearly with your team to ensure the venue runs smoothly. As you will be handling cash and other payments, you must be honest and trustworthy. You will enjoy being busy and working in a fast-paced environment, and you will thrive under pressure while staying calm during peak times. You will have a good awareness of current food and beverage industry trends and a working knowledge of Health and Safety and Food and Drink preparation practices.
