Job description

Reporting to the Head of Network & Operations, the Network Engineers are responsible for supporting the evolution of the company's Network from its current test lab environment at their datacenter through to the upcoming network deployment and the continuous expansion plan. The network, which is multi-vendor and white label, is at the leading edge of next-generation network design and will inspire the imagination and curiosity of highly technical network engineers with previous experience as senior network engineers within an ISP or Carrier environment. Ideally, candidates will have significant network engineering experience to at least CCNP/JNCP level and will be striving for CIIE, within a carrier/ISP environment.

This role is probably not suitable for an Enterprise-based NW Engineer.

The key deliverables for the Network Engineers will include:

  1. Taking engineering accountability for this innovative start-up's Next Generation ISP/Carrier network throughout its evolution.
  2. Handling day-to-day Network Management tasks such as troubleshooting network issues.
  3. Configuring network hardware and related products.
  4. Occasionally visiting datacenters to install hardware.
  5. Monitoring and improving network performance, utilizing automation where possible.
  6. Planning for network growth activities.
  7. Ensuring compliance.
  8. Establishing reliable network security.

Supporting continuous evolution, delivery, and improvement practices as the network develops and expands.

  • Supporting and maintaining the core, distribution, and access networks.

Undertaking ad-hoc projects and activities as needed to support network deployment.

Supporting network activity within lab and deployment environments:

  • Supporting Network Architects to build, configure, and troubleshoot the physical network within test environments hosted in data centers.
  • Ensuring stable and reliable network services.
  • Performing day-to-day network performance monitoring.
  • Continuously troubleshooting and fault analyzing as the network evolves, including hardware troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Handling trouble tickets, carrier interfaces, and escalations.
  • Deploying and maintaining network monitoring, analysis, and reporting tools.
  • Analyzing problems for effective fault diagnosis and system recovery.
Collaborating with Network Operations and Network Architecture teams to report progress and technical requirements.

Network Management tasks:

  • Providing network support, including operation and change management across all network aspects.
  • Applying configuration changes via change control systems and processes.
  • Engaging in network design activities, including HLD, LLD documentation, and implementation.
  • Installing network hardware and software at onsite locations.
  • Managing upgrades, patches, and configuration tuning.
Representing the business through engagement with vendor and industry colleagues.

Continuous evolution, delivery, and improvement practices:

  • Maintaining, developing, and implementing new technology to enhance services.
  • Monitoring and testing backups of servers and configuring data for network equipment.
  • Optimizing network capacity and reliability.
Developing and maintaining sound network security practices across all equipment.

Supporting and maintaining core, distribution, and access networks:

  • Creating sustainable solutions for complex issues.
  • Collaborating with network architects, engineering, and security teams.
  • Identifying and resolving network problems.
  • Managing networking, routing, and interconnectivity.
Implementing innovative ideas and programs to reduce network issues.
